Donner decides: Maarten is allowed to be extradited to Sweden.

The dutch Justice Minister Donner has decided that the activist Maarten Blok, from Amsterdam, can be extradited to Sweden. If convicted Maarten will be allowed to finish his sentence in the Netherlands after a dutch judge has converted the sentence to fit dutch law. Also Maarten won’t be extradited untill just before the actual courtcase. The date for that case isn’t known yet.


The Court in Amsterdam and the dutch Supreme Court had already ruled that extradition was allowed.

Sweden asked for Maarten’s extradition, referring to the events that occurred during the EU-summit in Gothenburg in 2001. He is accused of having hit a police officer. Maarten has always denied this, witness-reports and video-evidence confirm his innocence. The extradition is controversial because of miscarriages of justice in the Gothenburg Court. Amnesty International, swedish lawyers and a swedish special committee critized the workings of the court.
